Drink coffee or not?

Many patients told me that drinking coffee is good. Many doctors drink coffee. Most of the residents drink coffee. So drinking coffee can’t be bad.

Here are some of the most up-to-date arguments.

Don’t get shocked or confused, because it might be that none of these arguments is true.

  • Pros: For those who drank both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee, they seem to have a lower risk for death from cardiovascular disease, neurologic diseases, type 2 diabetes, and suicide. Coffee consumption was not associated with cancer deaths.
  • On another hand, completely different results shows: Coffee has been linked to cancer risk or incidence in every single tissue type of cancer in the body, with the most commonly reported being colorectal, bladder/urinary tract, pancreatic, and gynecological and breast cancers.

Cafestol and kahweol in coffee beans and have been believed as hypercholesterolemic.  But cafestol and kahweol are not present in regular coffee made with drip coffee makers because of being mostly trapped by the use of a paper filter. Espresso is different because it is made with high-pressure hot water through a column in a percolator.

This is very confusing and contradictory, isn’t it?

Nature is confusing and difficult to know about. But personally, I observed in many patients that coffee is heavily linked to palpitations, insomnia, headache and anxiety. If you do have these symptom, it might be a good idea to get rid of the cup of coffee.
